Dance Artist/Educator (Shanghai, Frankfurt, New York) –
Gregory received his M.A. Contemporary Dance Education in 2014 from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) Germany, his B.F.A. in Dance from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and a 4-year classical vocal music education from Fiorello H. LaGuardia H.S. of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Gregory also holds a Shiatsu Practitioner Diploma from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California.
Over three decades, Gregory has performed with world acclaimed dance companies in Asia, Europe and America. Presently, he is a performer with Punchdrunk International in “Sleep No More” Shanghai. Returning full circle to New York City, he was a guest artist with the José Limón Dance Company for two seasons and has danced for Roberto Galvan – Stadttheater Giessen, Joseph Tmim – Tolada in Berlin and City Contemporary Dance Company of Hong Kong.
Gregory is a sought after visiting professor for several international arts universities for dance such as National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA) in Taipei, Korean National University of Arts in Seoul, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, teaching BA and MA students. He teaches for other universities and professional arts institutions: HfMDK – Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, HZT Berlin – Inter-University Centre for Dance, Palucca University of Dance Dresden, Codarts Rotterdam Dance Academy, SEAD, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, Balettakademien Stockholm, Royal Swedish Ballet School Stockholm, Folkhögskola Härnösand Danslinje, North Karelia College Outokumpu, Iwanson School, and Peridance/Limon School. Gregory has collaborated with several German theatres & professional companies: Augsburg, Bielefeld, Braunschweig, Giessen, Leipziger Tanztheater, Nordhausen, Osnabrück, Saarbrücken, Wiesbaden, K3 – Center for Choreography/Tanzplan Hamburg, The Artist’s Body 4, Tanzkongress Düsseldorf. On faculty at DANCEWORKS berlin since 2016, Gregory teaches and has choreographed in the 3-year professional dance education and vocational preparatory programs.
Gregory has directed and assisted for productions in dance and opera. He was engaged as Interim Director for the Folkhögskola Härnösand; Danslinje. Earlier he directed and restaged works for the Bodhi Project at SEAD, as well as teaching there. In 2007, he began directing Dance in School projects for Tanzlabor_21 and other educational projects such as: Directing Team, The Forsythe Company Education Program in collaboration with the Altana Kulturstiftung. At the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Gregory directed and choreographed “Carmen” and at Theater Erfurt, the “New Year’s Concert.” There he was choreographic assistant for Jean Renshaw’s dance ensemble and the operatic assistant for “Aida,” under the stage direction of Dieter Kaegi. Gregory’s is also the European Liaison of the New York Institute of Dance & Education (NYIDE), and Executive, Foundational Faculty of the New York Dance Festival (NYDF) summer intensive, where he direct, teaches, and choreographs annually over 15 years. Furthermore, he assists NYIDE in the movement study certification for teachers and dancers from around the globe.
Gregory has led and facilitated youth initiatives and dance presentations in collaboration with Joblinge gAG and the Crespo Foundation. In 2016, he joined the Battery Dance (NYC) intercultural project, Dancing to Connect Refugees collaborating with the Theodor- Heuss-Schule in Frankfurt. Since 2007, Gregory teaches the Professional Training at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm/Tanzplattform Rhein-Main.
