Black Ballerina Summit

Saturday, August 10, 2024

With the collaboration of Ballet legend Karen Brown, and Co-Host Devon McLeod, Associate Producer of the New York Dance Festival, the Black Ballerina Summit is a celebration of inclusion and acknowledgement for women of color and those, of any gender, who taught, supported, and promoted access in Classical Ballet through; technique innovation, teaching, philanthropy, or employment. The Summit is about people of any race and gender that have supported and helped pave the way for people of color in Ballet by acknowledging them and Black Ballerinas. It’s for any person wishing to contribute to a robust and inspired tomorrow, today.

The full day symposium will include a Welcome, Master Classes, Panel discussions, an in studio showing, and an evening Soirée. Plus lots of reminiscing, future planning, and seeding “now” projects.

Community, Learning, Updating history, and Appreciation is the goal of the day and gathering.

The Black Ballerina Summit is part of the Black Ballet Discovery Project, Genius Initiative, and Archive: Our supported infrastructure solution for the problem of Blacks in Ballet.
